THE MONARCHY   RESPONSE FORM Topic Index

POLICY

  1. The present senior members of the Royal Family, ie. the Queen, her children and their spouses, to keep their titles and roles for life or as long as they want to, no elevations of rank to take place, no new members of the family to have Royal status.
  2. The next Head of State to be a President fulfilling the roles of the present Queen, to be a distinguished Diplomat or Statesman, suitable candidates to be nominated by members of both houses of Parliament, final selection to be by public election.

JUSTIFICATION

  1. The existence of the pampered, privileged, extravagant royal family is seen by the poisonous scum of society as giving them a licence to indulge their greed, extravagance and indifference to the plight of others without any restraint. This is why the rich establishment is so keen to preserve it. The existence of the Royal Family is a gross insult and provocation to all decent people who earn a modest living by hard, honest work and get where they do by their own efforts.
  2. The existence of the Royal Family is seen as legitimising all hereditary privilege ie unjustified privilege, hereditary wealth ie unjustified wealth, inherited power ie unjustified power, nepotism and greed in our society; that is why the corrupt are so anxious to preserve it.
  3. It inspires megalomaniacs and mega egoists to indulge in almost infinite greed and selfishness because the extravagant Royal life-style is virtually unattainable.
  4. All the ridiculous flummery associated with it is an acute embarrassment.
  5. The privilege and wealth of the Monarchy makes a mockery of this society's claim to be a meritocracy, in fact, it is still largely feudal.
  6. The patent injustice of hereditary wealth and privilege undermines our system of law and justice, it gives a justification for crime (ie. if the supposedly high and mighty can get away with the injustice of having vast unearned wealth, why shouldn't I?).
  7. Kings and Queens, Princes and Princesses belong in children's fairy tales.
  8. France abolished it's Monarchy in 1849, I doubt whether any French person wants it back. There doesn't seem to be much nostalgia for Monarchy in Germany or Italy either.
  9. Hereditary titles should be abolished.
  10. The call for the abolition of the Monarchy doesn't imply any criticism of the Queen or any other member of the Royal Family, it is the institution that is at fault.
  11. The popularity of the Royal Family as soap opera and object of sentiment cannot justify it's continued existence. Apart from any other consideration, there is an excess of fatuous soap opera on television.
  12. The wealth of the Royal Family is offensive and obscene to the poor and half-starving, those whose brains haven't decayed away due to lack of nourishment at least.
  13. The French got rid of their royal family in 1849, the Italians in ???? and the Germans in 1918, there is little sign that any of them regret it or wish to return to having a monarchy.
  14. Our head of state is a puppet who, except perhaps when she is at the racecourse, does what she is told to do and says what she is told to say. Why do we show so much respect for a puppet? Should anybody be required to carry the burden of being a puppet for the whole of their life?
